South of the Border

You thought Australia was a non-hockey country? Try Puerto Rico! They're getting a pre-season NHL game this September. It's odd considering there's no hockey programs there, which at least we have Down Under. And I want no burning of Puerto Rican flags! Or blaming anything on "some Puerto Rican guy"!

It's still not the dumbest thing for a sporting league to try. Last year, the NFL set a new single regular season game attendance record in Mexico, with over 100,000 turning up to see what probably would have been another forgettable Arizona Cardinals game. They really need a guy like Cuba Gooding Jr's character (who played for the Cards) in Jerry Maguire.

Still, I guess Mexico does have an NFL background. They've been providing players to the NFL for years. All of them: kickers. Which is of course, truly America's most coveted football position. Not.

The One-Minute Update of Pat's Week

Friday, August 11, 2006

Hey gang! I thought I'd give you a hello and let you know what I've been up to. I'm two feet deep in used tissues right now, but I'm actually feeling OK. It must have been that great and reliable remedy of calling in sick at work - then you feel a bit better already. Of course, I've been doing uni stuff all morning, so I haven't got off scott free. Well, I sort of have, because there aren't any Scotts or Scottish people around here. Yet.

The coolest T-shirt I've seen this week was a dude at The Strokes concert wearing a T-shirt saying "Predictive text is book." Gold. The gig was good too. Not even Festival Hall and a bunch of whackjobs nearby could spoil it.

Here's something I'd like to propose a toast to: toast. Toast is fantastic. It's hot, crunchy and Vegemite can be applied to it. A real winner.

I'm playing Tiger Woods 2004 again. It's an easy game once you start to max out your attributes - which I did several years ago - so now you can pretty much kick ass no matter how awake/tired/drunk you are. I'm chasing more stats really and just putting some music on in the background...

...music like all the dance CDs I got off Ben. Clubber's Guide, Sessions 3, One Love...all good stuff. Just as I was nearly entering a metal phase...nearly. I did download an Edguy song, if that means anything...

...which reminds me, I learned a bit of Deep Purple's Highway Star on bass, in an attempt to impress our buddies in Europe when they return. And because it's awesome.

When Work Gets So Ridiculous, It's Funny

Hi Team,

There is a good news that the Closing session problem has been fixed and a patch is provided. However, with this patch, we now can not Open the session so stay tuned, another patch is coming.

Cheers,
Liem

Firestarter

Yo, just checking in to let you know any rumours of my demise are greatly exaggerated. I've updated the links on the right - there's some classic posts out there, especially from Rhys! Melbourne Ice and Melbourne Victory also asked for plugs in their email lists, so they've joined on too. The Victory emails are pretty good to be honest. The best part is the coach, Ernie Merrick, actually talking about their strategy for the week and so on. He explained that Victory would suck in the Pre-Season Cup because they're working on fitness...and they pretty much did tank.

These days I don't need to say too much to get some discussion going so...."GO! Mush, mush!" I'm the firestarter!

Souvenirs

I saw a lot of funny things this weekend and I'd like to share one from Sunday's AFL match between Geelong and the Kangaroos. It was the last game in Canberra for the next few years at least and one fan summed up their feelings about the nation's capital in banner form.

"Thanks for the porn!"
